A seven-day free parking area at Weinam Creek Marina is now subject to a closure notice as preparations begin for a new multi-level public car park.
Economic Development Queensland instructed drivers to remove vehicles from Zone A before 9am on Wednesday 28 October. Its notice warns that vehicles remaining in the closed area may be towed and directs users to alternatives, including Moore’s Road. This report is based on the published notices, not a site inspection. EDQ parking notice and map
The change affects access to one of the mainland departure points used by Southern Moreton Bay Islands residents. An old parking routine may no longer work, particularly for someone leaving a car while staying on an island for several days.
Moore’s Road has its own limits
Redland City Council’s parking information describes changes introduced at Moore’s Road from mid-July. Previously unrestricted spaces were being converted to seven-day and three-day parking, with separate changes for vehicle-and-trailer spaces.
The practical point is to read the sign applying to the actual bay. “Free” describes the price, not how long a vehicle may remain there. Council says restrictions vary around the precinct and some spaces have different uses at different times. Council’s parking guidance
Before leaving a vehicle, check the return date against the posted limit. Keep a photograph of the sign and the bay location for your own reference. A familiar space or an old online map is not a reliable guide during staged works.
Ferry access is to continue
EDQ says ferry access will remain available during the works and that Moore’s Road parking will remain open, subject to Council’s conditions. Existing permit holders are to receive information directly about alternative arrangements.
The agency anticipates construction continuing through 2027 and says further parking changes will be announced before they occur. That is a construction expectation, not a confirmed opening date for the finished facility. EDQ project FAQs
Vehicle-ferry passengers also need to check their booking independently of the parking notice. SeaLink’s separate terminal-upgrade update says its online timetable is dynamic and reflects services available to book. Revised vessel allocations and timetables began on 15 June in preparation for its terminal works. SeaLink’s vehicle-ferry update
For a trip involving a medical appointment, luggage or limited mobility, allow time to establish the usable route from the parking area to the departure point rather than assuming the previous walk is unchanged.
